Garden Children

Springtime brings so much ‘New’ to our gardens. This morning before I was to head off and work in another garden I took time to stroll our gardens. Along the edges and in midst I found so many new garden children that came alive this Spring.

With shovel in hand I began to transplant new ferns that had stretched out into paths, bachelor buttons (centurea montana) that had seeded, cranesbill (native geranium), celandine poppies, and so many more new garden children. They all have been transplanted to a much safer place and a home where they have room to flourish.

Get to know your plants by sight of leaf in their early stage so that you may identify you garden children. Two days ago I dug up three different species of Monarda that had stretched out into our paths and gave several clumps to our neighbor. Now these garden children can provide Summer beauty at a new home. Sharing our plants seems to have a two sided joy, and thus the giver and receiver both benefit.
